Where did the notion come from that things don’t change? “Why did I shave the beard”, “why did I change the way I dress or look”, “what does it mean?” It means that change can happen. That I am not made of stone or molded to metal like the golden calf. Is it possible that at the age of 23 I could believe something and then at the age of 33 I could believe something else. Yes. After all I changed when I was 23 to take on the Chassidic lifestyle. Was it easy to show up in class that first day wearing a Yarmulke? NO. There was that little critic in my head saying, “Oh now you are religious?” But I did it anyway because of love. Was it easy to not wear it? NO. There is the voice saying, “Oh now you’re not religious?” “I told you it was all BS, I told you he would fall.” Is it possible to be both, to have mixed feelings, to see what it feels like to live in different garments, to try out different ideas? What is this tendency to want to keep things static or the same? “I’m a rebel, soul rebel… soul adventurer”. -Bob Marley

In the idea we discussed last time about the half shekel, which would redeem the soul of each person, the way the word is written is the “coin of fire”. The coin is static, molded and set but the flaming coin is melting and coming back to nothing state. Hollywood, HOLY Wood. Plain and simple. Like stones in the Temple that are uncarved in there natural state.

These coins some say were redemption from the sin of the Golden Calf. An idol is made of gold or metal and is static. It doesn’t change. What did Moses do with the calf? He burns it, melts it in the fire, like the flaming coin it returns to it’s nothing state. Was the beard an idol of sorts, perhaps I had to return to my nothing state.

“Let yesterday burn and throw it in the fire, Live like a Warrior”. This is the meaning of “throw it in the fire and live like a warrior.” We cannot be frozen. We are Humans and we are living, breathing, and we are not perfect. Patience. Had the Jews had Patience and waited they would not have sinned with golden calf. Moshe would have returned. When I am asked consistently in interviews about what my “fans” reaction was to my change this is my reply. It has taught me to be more patient with my judgments of others. Maybe there is more to the story than meets the eye, perhaps I should hold off on my Judgment. Wait it out. I believe in love.

Things are not always this or that. If there is one thing I have learned, and I hope my fans have learned, it has to do with mixtures and blends.
